Welcome back all you readers. I'm guessing you have read through my previous article about deciding which business model of arcade site is right for you; Traffic trading or User oriented. If not I would definitely go back and check that out first so you can decide how you want your website to run.
Today I am going to be talking about something that is essential for both types of models; Picking your keywords. If you are a beginner to websites you may be questioning yourself what this could mean or why this is possibly of any use. Well, first let me explain something to you. Gaining traffic is the main objective on mostly any revenue based website, right? But where do we find this traffic? Sure, you could purchase it, but what if you are starting off with little to no budget? You could sponsor online games and we will dive into that in a later article, but what if you don't have any experience in this and once again no budget? The answer is FREE TRAFFIC. Woah?! Free?? Where do I get this free traffic from? Okay, okay, chill out. pretty much anywhere you can put a link is free traffic, but we are talking about a source that is significant and gives you good quality. In my own opinion the best source is from search engines. Go ahead and type something in to Google and take a look at the first few listings. Odds are they worked very hard to get placed there and because of it they have a great chance that you will click on them first before moving on down the list. This is what you should do! Firstly, you must to decide what "phrase" or "keywords" you want to place number one as.
When I am first trying to figure out a key phrase I usually use Google's handy-dandy tool called "Google insights" that allows you type in a keyphrase and it displays how popular it is and you can even compare it with various other search phrases. Try a few out and uncover a phrase that has a decent amount of traffic and then Google that phrase and look out at the competition. This might take a bit because most arcade websites have discovered all the relatively good niches, but not all of them. If you can discover a phrase that is highly search and not competed for get it! Here are some popular keywords that are used, some very competitive and some not so competitive: Defense Games, Racing Games, Girl Games, Flash Games, Dress up Games, Ben 10 games, Hot Games, Mario Games, Ninja Games, Funny Games, Stick Games, Shooting Games etc.. this list goes on and on
Anywho, look for a keyword that works for you! Once you have chosen a keyword we will work on how to make your site efficient for SEO (Search engine optimization) and SERPS. If you can manage to reach the top spot for that keyword you will start to notice a lot of traffic coming in from all the users going to your site from the searches. One of my sites, http://www.hiddenninjagames.com, is listed #3 for it's keyphrase "Ninja Games". From this I get a good amount of traffic monthly and I used to be at spot #2 until recently because I just slacked off. This gap in traffic between #3 and #1 is very large though, and the higher up you make it on the listings the better. In different article I will tell you about how to rank higher and what tricks you can do to aid you. But now that you have selected your business model and keyword(s) you are on your way!
You may be wondering where one can find the hottest flash ninja games online. Hiddenninjagames.com of course!
